Isaac P. Friesen Travel Pictures
Here are some pictures from I.P. Friesen’s trip to Palestine that I have digitized from a photo album. Clicking on an image will open a larger version in a new window. These travel pictures were all taken in 1910 during the time of the Ottoman Empire. I have also included a few family pictures.
The first pictures are from what is now Israel. Notice that the infamous ladder can be seen on the picture of the church of the Holy Sepulchre. The ladder dates back to at least 1728 and is still in the same location today.

I.P. Friesen was a 'snowbird' who liked to winter in Long Beach, California with his family. One place they stayed was in the Caldwell Apartments. My mother, I.P. Friesen’s youngest daughter, was born in Long Beach on one of these trips. Two of my aunts are on the stuffed Long Beach donkey. The beach picture is of my mother Louise and her father I.P. Friesen. My mother usually tilted her head like that when taking a picture. She passed away in 2017.
1895 picture of I.P. Friesen and his boyhood friends. Front: Jacob Klassen, Jacob Peters (brother-in-law), Gerhard Martins. Rear: Wilhelm Thiessen, I.P. Friesen. 1908 (?) picture of I.P. Friesen with his two oldest daughters and some adult friends.
I.P. Friesen’s car in 1907. The pictures show road conditions in Rosthern, north of Saskatoon.
Four of I.P. Friesen's daughters in 1921. My mother Louise is the baby. The two girls with the dolls are my mother Louise and her older sister Alice. Their home was in Rosthern, Sask.
